Our commitment

Rentpedia is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We want every visitor — including prospective and current tenants who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice input, or keyboard-only navigation — to be able to browse listings, submit a rental application, and reach us without barriers.

Standards we follow

As an Ontario business, we are guided by the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its Integrated Accessibility Standards. For our website specifically, we use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our working benchmark. This is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time project, and we do not claim full, certified conformance at this time — we are actively identifying and correcting issues as we find them.

What we've done so far

Recent improvements to rentpedia.ca include:

Adding descriptive labels to icon-only links and buttons (such as our social media icons and menu controls) so screen readers announce what they do.
Properly associating form labels with their fields on our pre-qualification and newsletter forms, instead of relying on placeholder text alone.
Adding meaningful alternative text to images so their purpose is announced to assistive technology.
Declaring the page language correctly so screen readers and translation tools pronounce and translate our content properly.
Reviewing and repairing broken interactive elements (such as sliders, filters, and pop-ups) so the site behaves predictably rather than failing silently.

Known limitations

Some parts of our site rely on third-party tools we don't fully control — for example, the embedded Google Maps property map and the Google Translate widget. We've done what we can to make these usable, but they may not always meet the same standard as the rest of our site. We're continuing to monitor and improve these areas over time.
